RITROVAMENTO DA FIENILE: ATL EXPLORER 1 (1970)

Nella legnaia di vecchio ex rivenditore Volkswagen e' stata recuperata questa ATL, e comperata da un amico fraterno su mia segnalazione. Ci sono voluti dieci anni per convincere il proprietario a disfarsene, ma noi abbiamo tanta pazienza. A breve verra' smontata e ripristinata fino all'ultimo bullone. Si presenta in condizioni davvero sane ed originali al 100%.

La vettura e' corredata delle mezze porte superiori metalliche con vetri scorrevoli e della capote in tela canvas militare con relativa centina.

Il parabrezza e' abbattibile e le portierine a vento sono separabili in 5 secondi dalla carrozzeria per un uso fouristradistico.

La ATL (AUTOTECNICA DEL LARIO, che aveva sede a Mandello del Lario, il paese della Moto Guzzi) di Ercole Zuccoli e Giorgio Greppi ha prodotto questa vettura dal 1969 al 1972 in circa 80 esemplari.

Su disegno del Sig. Zuccoli, la Empi Sportster americana fu modificata per meglio soddisfare le esigenze degli inverni italiani. Il motore posteriore e' stato carenato e per la zona delle portiere e' stata prevista copertura asportabile.
Inoltre il telaio Volkswagen e' stato dotato di rinforzo.

il vano posteriore ha lo schienale posteriore a ghigliottina, traslabile verso i sedili anteriori per ottenere una sorta di piccolo "pick up"

La nostra ATL e' realizzata su telaio "ovale", di cui conserva tutta la meccanica, ad eccezione del motore, che e' un 34 cavalli montato al momento della trasformazione, e munito di firzione da 200mm per favorire gli impieghi gravosi.
Le marmitte sono realizzate sempre su disegno del Sig.Zuccoli e sono piu' alte per migliorare l'angolo di uscita.

BARN FIND: ATL EXPLORER 1 (1970)

In the barn of an old ex Volkswagen dealer we found this ATL EXPLORER 1, and it was bought by a very dear friend of mine. it took ten years for us to talk the owner into selling it, but we were very patient. Soon it will be taken all apart and restored to last screw. it is very dry and 100% complete and original.

It came with upper metallic half doors with sliding glasses and its first military canvas green soft top with its frame. It has flip windscreen and removable suicide doors, to get a real offroad version very quickly.

ATL was owned by Ercole Zuccoli and Giorgio Greppi, (AUTOTECNICA DEL LARIO) (LARIO IS THE SECOND NAME OF COMO'S LAKE) It was located in Mandello del Lario (MOTO GUZZI'S TOWN) and produced this car from 1969 to 1972 .( about 80 were sold.)

Mr. Zuccoli modified project of american Empi Sportster to get a vehicle to be suitable in Italian hard winters. Engine compartment was covered. door zone too was modified to have serious steel doors.

Rear cargo zone has a seat for two persons, and upper part of this seat is removable , to go just behind front seat for creating a small sort of "pick up".

The base for our ATL is an oval beetle, and all mechanical parts is untouched. only the engine was update to another, but 34 cv one, at the moment of the conversion.
clutch is 200 mm one, beacuse of the harder use in program. Exhaust designed by Mr. Zuccoli was higher than the original one, to get more ground clearence.
